How Does A Transparent LED Display Work?

Feb 21, 2023

The standard LCD, plasma, and OLED display technology of today is a sandwich-like structure with two different panels bonded together with liquid crystal material and sandwiched between transparent electrodes on both sides. Although the screen appears clear, if you look closely enough, you can see into it. A transparent screen contains no pixels or image elements. Transparent displays are nothing more than thin, light-emitting devices (such as OLED or LED).

So, how does a transparent LED display work?? Transparent LED displays function by shining light through an array of organic LEDs (OLED) or Light Emitting Diodes (LED) that turn transmissive materials opaque - without the need for power. In other words, OLED and LED arrays do not require their own power source; they convert any source of external backlighting into luminescence by absorbing and re-releasing energy from behind them. When no power is supplied, this process results in complete transparency because there is nothing to prevent light from passing through.
